J.J. Abrams Talks The Feel Of Episode VII

In a new Interview with Entertainment Weekly, J.J. Abrams briefly talked about how he want’s the feel of Episode VII to be, as well as answering a question about which previous Star Wars film Episode VII will feel like more in tone. Below is the portion of the interview he did where he talks about Star Wars:

[blockquote cite=””]Which of the previous Star Wars films best exemplifies what you’re aiming to do in terms of the spirit or tone of Episode VII?

“Impossible for me to say because it’s going to be an evolving thing. I would say we are working really hard to make a movie that feels as emotional and authentic and exciting as possible. Whatever your favorite Star Wars movie is and how to compare it is really sort of subjective.”

Media and fans have been offering you a ton of unsolicited advice about to how to approach the film. Is there any particular thing they’ve said that you’ve taken to heart?

“It’s been nice see that how important it is and to be reminded how important it is to so many people. We all know that [creator George Lucas’] dream has become almost a religion to some people. I remember reading a thing somewhere, someone wrote about just wanting [the new film] to feel real; to feel authentic. I remember I felt that way when I was 11 years old when I saw the first one. As much of a fairy tale as it was, it felt real. And to me, that is exactly right.”[/blockquote]

While it’s well known that J.J. Abrams is real secretive with his movies, it’s still nice to hear him give a small update on Episode VII, and it sounds to me that he has the right idea of how Episode VII should feel.

Star Wars Rebels Will Be At The New York Comic Con

It looks like we will be getting another look and some new info about Star Wars Rebels soon, as it has just been announced that it will have an appearance at the New York Comic Con with a panel titled, Star Wars Rebels: Might of the Empire. Here are the details about the panel:
    [blockquote cite=””]

Star Wars Rebels: The Might of the Empire
    Saturday, October 12, 2013
    2:45 p.m. – 3:45 p.m., Room 1E
What happens when the Galactic Empire takes over a planet? What if Imperials took interest in your world, and garrisoned Stormtroopers and TIE fighters to maintain order? Star Wars Rebels, the thrilling, all-new animated television series from Lucasfilm for Disney XD will ask those questions — and so will this panel hosted by Lucasfilm’s resident Star Wars expert, Pablo Hidalgo.

Details on the show are closely guarded, but fans at NYCC will get a first look at new art from the series, and learn new information about the formidable forces of the Galactic Empire. Star Wars Rebels is set between Episodes III and IV, and it is a dark time in the galaxy. In the spirit of the original trilogy, the Empire is once again the preeminent villain of the saga, and Star Wars Rebels puts the awesome might of Imperial forces in the spotlight.

The series is still a year away, so don’t miss this chance to get an early look at its development.

    [/blockquote]

I love how this panel looks to focus on how the Empire will look and operate in the series, as that’s one of the main things I’m looking forward to seeing in Star Wars Rebels!

New York Comic Con will take place from October 10th-13th 2013, and for the full list of Star Wars panels and events that will take place at the convention, head on over to StarWars.com

Standalone Star Wars Movies To Be Origin Stories

We haven’t heard much news about the standalone Star Wars movies in awhile, but today over at Variety, they had a report that at a Disney investor conference, chief financial officer Jay Rasulo talked about how we’ll be seeing a new Star Wars movie every year starting with Episode VII in 2015, but the interesting part was that he also referred to the standalone movies as  “origin story films.” Here is the quote from Rasulo regarding Star Wars in the story from Variety:

[blockquote cite=]Rasulo also noted that one “Star Wars” trilogy film or “origin story film” would also appear on the release schedule each year, starting with the seventh installment in the “Star Wars” saga that J.J. Abrams will direct and Disney releases in 2015.[/blockquote]

While it has been widely expected that the standalone movies would focus on different characters from the Star Wars universe, this is the first time someone at Disney or Lucasfilm has referred to them as origin stories. Hopefully we’ll find out just what characters we’ll see origin stories for in these new movies soon.

For the full the article, where Jay Rasulo also talks about the different ways Disney will utilize the Star Wars license, head on over to Variety.

RUMOR: Will The Clone Wars Bonus Content Be Released Through Apple TV Devises?

Over at the site Jedi News, the guys there are hearing reports from their sources that Apple TV devises might be the future home of new Star Wars content, including the remaining Clone Wars “Bonus Content” episodes. Here is part of the report from Jedi News.

[blockquote cite=]”This being something entirely new to the Star Wars franchise, and with the source also being new we got our Bothan spies to dig into the rumour and try to substantiate the facts.

Our source told us the following:

“A Disney branded app for Star Wars will launch on Apple TV devices, with plans to distribute the final Clone Wars episodes exclusively digitally only through the Apple TV device for a limited period of time. This will happen in this holiday season.

In 2014, plans are in an early stage to use the platform to deliver SW7 production news ‘live’ from the sets, followed with Star Wars Rebels in late 2014 taking us all the way through to SW7 release.”

The source followed this up with the following:

“Distribution will only be on Apple TV devices capable of running iOS7 and there has been no confirmation if the same app will be available to other iOS devices such as iPad or iPhone.”

With Disney launching a number of ‘channels’ on Apple TV including Disney Channel, and Disney XD (future home of Rebels) what started as a rumour sent into Jedi News suddenly looks like a distinct possibility. Whilst we can’t know for certain, there is certainly enough smoke here, to suggest there is a fire – and we could be about to see a whole new way to access and consume Star Wars content. As always, this is all just rumour and nothing is fact until announced by Lucasfilm, Disney or their respective partners – but it remains fun to speculate…

    [/blockquote]

Of course like the report said, this should still be treated as a rumor until we hear something official from Lucasfilm or Disney. But if the remaining Clone Wars episodes do release this way, it definitely fits in the “Out of the box” category that Pablo Hidalgo mentioned at Celebration Europe.

For the full report, head on over to Jedi News.

Standing in the Stars : The Peter Mayhew Story

Chewbacca has always been one of the most iconic Star Wars characters, and Peter Mayhew has done nothing but show his love and appreciation for the character and to his fans over the years. But unfortunately Peter has had some serious health issues, and because of this, a new Kickstarter campaign has been set up to help Peter Mayhew as he is about to undergo as series of serious surgeries that would replace his knees and give him the potential to walk unassisted again. But in wanting to share this story with all his family, friends and fans, a new film project called Standing in the Stars : The Peter Mayhew Story, will show everyone the challenges and successes Peter Mayhew will face during this process, as well as help fans see just what he goes through every day.

Here are the details about the Standing in the Stars : The Peter Mayhew Story Kickstarter campaign, as well as video from Peter Mayhew and his wife Angie about the project.

[blockquote cite=]When someone passes Peter Mayhew on the street, they do a double-take. It could be because he stands a head taller than the crowd at 7’3”, or it could be because they recognize him as the man behind the mask of Chewbacca in the Star Wars films. Peter was born with a condition called Giantism, which brought him both his astounding size and his famous role, but carries with it some serious health concerns.

Over the years, it has become more and more difficult for Peter to stand upright and walk, requiring the use of a cane or a wheelchair. He and his family are determined to get him back on his own two feet. His doctors came up with a solution: an intense series of surgeries that would replace his knees and give him the potential to walk unassisted.

We will be following Peter to his last convention before the surgery, interviewing him and other celebrities from the star wars universe and the convention circuit. You’ll get a peek into his life and struggles at home as a giant. We’ll be interviewing his doctors and the engineers behind his prosthetic knees that have been specially constructed for him.

Then, you’ll follow Peter through the day of his 4 surgeries. During that single day they will be replacing the top and bottom of both knees. They will also be cutting through his tendons to lengthen them and allow him to straighten his legs and lock his knees.

After the surgery we will follow Peter through the two months of intense rehabilitation and recovery. Then with his friends, family and fans present we will celebrate as we get to see Peter stand and walk on his own at his full height.[/blockquote]

For anyone who would like to help support Peter Mayhew and this project, you can check out the full Kickstarter page in the link below.
