It’s a great time to be a “Clone Wars” fan if you live Germany right now, as the “Bonus Content” episodes are set to air over there later this week on Super RTL, and now a short trailer for the episodes has made it’s way online. The trailer is in German, so it’s going to be pretty hard to understand what the characters are saying. But nevertheless, we can still enjoy the awesome visuals, as the trailer gives us some great new footage of the Order 66 arc!

Hopefully with this German trailer, an official announcement and trailer from StarWars.com is imminent.

The artwork for these cards are really cool. I’m loving the Imperial propaganda style posters that Lucasfilm has been using to showcase the Empire in the series, and these are the best ones yet. It’s also great to see the different kinds of Imperial troops represented in the cards. Hopefully seeing Scout Troopers and Snowtroopers featured on them means we’ll be seeing those troopers in the series as well!

These cards will be extremely rare, but if you are one of the 2500 fans to received them, these will no doubt be one of the coolest Star Wars collectibles in your collection! May the force be with you.

Rumored Names & Descriptions For The Main Characters Of Star Wars Rebels

The guys over at Jedi News have gotten some info on the possible names and descriptions for the main characters of Star Wars Rebels, thanks to some upcoming LEGO sets of the Ghost and Phantom that gives the descriptions of it’s crew. Here is the report from Jedi News:

    [blockquote cite=””]

“On board the Ghost we will encounter:

    – Kannan Jarrus

    – Hera Syndulla – a Twilek whose family we have met before, and may well meet again.

    – Zeb – the gunner, and trusty sidekick.

On board the Phantom we will encounter:

    – Ezra Bridger – a renegade Imperial Cadet, who learns of their Force sensitivities through a highly sought Holocron – the very item The Inquisitor is commanded to retrieve by his Emperor. Bridger dresses in some customised Imperial gear.

    [/blockquote]

Of course until we hear an official announcement about the main characters for Star Wars Rebels from Lucasfilm or Disney, this information should still be treated as a rumor for now.

Hear Sam Witwer Read An Excerpt From The New Novel “Maul: Lockdown”

“Clone Wars” fans get one more chance to hear Sam Witwer give another brilliant performance as Darth Maul, as Entertainment Weekly has an exclusive excerpt from the new novel “Maul: Lockdown” read by Sam Witwer himself. Much like they did with James Arnold Taylor for the “Kenobi” novel, Entertainment Weekly has partnered up with Sam Witwer and Rebel Force Radio’s Jimmy Mac to produce an audio excerpt from the novel, where not only will you hear Sam as Darth Maul again, but also as Darth Sidious, whom he played in “The Force Unleashed” games.

Once you hear this audio excerpt, it will make you hope that this wont be the last time we hear Sam Witwer voicing these characters.

Be sure to check out the audio of the excerpt over at Entertainment Weekly.

New Star Wars Rebels Character Revealed! The New Astromech Droid Chopper

(Update: You can now check out the video of Chopper’s reveal right here! Lucasfilm has also provided us with some more info about the droid, as well as the first look at the 3.75-inch Chopper action figure.)

Over at the German website Movie Pilot, they’ve got a new video up that introduces us to a new character on “Star Wars Rebels.” The Astromech droid Chopper. In the video Dave Filoni and some of the crew for Star Wars Rebels talk about the new droid and how he’ll interact with the characters of the show. Dave Filoni even goes on to describes him by saying, “If R2’s your favorite dog, Chopper’s a cat.”

You can check out the video of Chopper’s reveal over at Movie Pilot, which also shows us some pre-viz animation footage of Chopper in motion. But below are some images and concept designs for Chopper, as well as a bit from the interview with Dave Filoni where he talks about the differences between Rebels and Clone Wars, if Rebels will connect with the new movies, and the setting of the series:
    [blockquote cite=””]

Movie Pilot: What will be the greatest differences be between the new show and Clone Wars?

Dave Filoni: We will see many things that are famous to Star Wars, but have not appeared on screen in a while. Star Destroyers, TIE Fighters, and Stormtroopers – basically the Empire is back and that is a big change, since, for many years, we have only seen the Republic in action. The tone of the series is also different. The Clone Wars got very dark as we headed towards the end of the war and the downfall of the Jedi. Star Wars Rebels brings back the banter and faster pace that the original films were famous for.

Movie Pilot: Will there be any connections at all the new Star Wars movies?

Dave Filoni: It’s hard to say at this point. There are so many elements in motion. The stories are very far apart time wise, so direct connections are difficult. They will connect in that they are both parts of the overall Star Wars continuity that we are building.

Movie Pilot: Could you tell us a little bit about the setting of “Star Wars Rebels”?

Dave Filoni:  Rebels takes place in the Outer Rim. The audience typically thinks of Tatooine as the place where Luke Skywalker grew up, when the Outer Rim is mentioned. We are on a more civilized planet, and one that profited from the Empire’s existence in the beginning. Most of the stories take place on the planet Lothal, which is a grass planet with large monolithic stones on the surface. The look comes from some Ralph McQuarrie concept paintings that were done for the original Star Wars films. We tried to make Lothal look and feel like a planet that would have been in the original film trilogy. It’s alien, but you feel like it’s someplace that you could visit on Earth geographically. Hoth, Tatooine, and Endor are all like this, so we think it fits in well.

Chopper is an essential crew member of the Ghost, tasked with keeping the starship running and operable for its band of heroes. In reality, thanks to his many “unique” upgrades and customizations, no other alien, human, or droid could handle the job.

The design of Chopper, a.k.a. C1-10P, takes cues from early Ralph McQuarrie concept art for R2-D2, especially the expressive arms that fold out of his head. As Star Wars Rebels takes place four years prior to the events of Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope, Chopper’s retro look creates an aesthetic continuity with droids of the original trilogy.[/blockquote]

Some more great info about the series from Dave Filoni, and we’ll see if Chopper can endear fans as a new lovable droid like R2-D2 has for so many years.

Simon Kinberg Talks Star Wars Rebels In A New Interview

Entertainment Weekly recently had the chance to talk to “Star Wars Rebels” executive producer Simon Kinberg in a new interview, where he talks about a multitude of different “Star Wars Rebels” topics. Such as,  how the series came about, how it will be different from “Clone Wars,” the Inquisitor, the tone of the show, and the chance of seeing familiar characters in the series. Here is a portion of the interview:
    [blockquote cite=””]

So how did you land on the premise for the show?
They wanted to do an animated show and I loved [Cartoon Network’s] Clone Wars and grew up with a lot of animated shows. So we just started to talk about where it would fall in the general Star Wars timeline. Really there was no predetermination going in. It could have been a prequel, sequel, a stand-alone universe. The main thing for us is how do we tell a story that enhances this universe, that answers questions that audiences may or may not have had but at least will make it feel like the world is fuller after watching the show. We pretty quickly got to this idea that though Rebel Alliance that was such an integral part of the movies, we know next to nothing about the formation of at least in terms of the movies and The Clone Wars. There was nothing in the canon that had delved deep into it. That’s where it started — let’s tell the story of the formation of the heroes in the original movies. And that put us in a time line between episode III and IV. You don’t want to be too close to New Hope so that it feels like it’s repetitive, you want to feel like you’re watching the earliest seeds of what will sprout into a full-blown rebellion.

How will this look or feel different from Clone Wars?
It will look quite different. The intention of what I’ve seen so afar, and we’re pretty far down the line, the intention is for it to feel quite different from Clone Wars. The place we went back to as to a visual template was Ralph McQuarrie, who was one of the original concept artists for the original Star Wars films. His art is softer, a little more figurative, more of a feel of being drawn, less computer generated. The first few movies had a bit of a hand-made quality. We wanted the show to have that. There’s also in the archives where [creator George] Lucas keeps all the original art and props, there’s tons of art that’s McQuarrie’s musing on the Star Wars universe that was never used in the films. There’s places where we’ve quite literally taken world-creation or vehicles or creatures from his original art that was never used in the films and made that part of show.

That’s fantastic. What about story-telling differences? How dark can you go on Disney XD?
We haven’t talked in those terms. But the world we’re creating is an Imperial world. You’re seeing the impact of the Empire, of stormtroopers around the galaxy, abusing and oppressing people. Thematically and politically, it goes to some dark places. But for the tone of the show we took our cues from the original movies, which had fun and adventure and swashbuckling with emotion and grounded human characters. We took all our cues from the original films. Obviously there are slight tonal differences between New Hope, Empire and Jedi. But I think the closest intended voice of the show is A New Hope. So there are places where we get into darker backstories, there are places we see how cruel and malevolent the Empire can be, but for the most part it’s a fun and character-driven story. Again taking our cues from the original films, it’s less maybe political than the prequels and more personal. It starts with a few character introductions that will precede the show. I wrote the first two episodes, they’re like a one-hour story across two episodes where we introduce the main characters in the show.

Be sure to check out the full interview with Simon Kinberg over at Entertainment Weekly, and see how he answers the question about whether or not we’ll see Darth Vader or the Emperor in the show!

Well now Jedi News has gotten some more descriptions of the revealed “Bonus Content” episodes, and they gives us more insight as to what we can look forward to seeing in the fist two episodes of the  Yoda arc! You can check out the descriptions below, but beware of spoilers:
    [blockquote cite=]

    Voices

    • Yoda is deeply confused when he hears the voice of his late friend, Qui -Gon Jinn in his head. For he knows that even a Jedi can not speak from the realm of the dead to the living. But with the help of Anakin Yoda can escape from the hospital and puts himself on the search for the source of the voice.

    • Destiny

    • Guided by the Force, Yoda travels to the heart of the galaxy. There, on the planet where he finds the origin of the Force, he must face difficult trials. Only upon passing them will the Sages deem him worthy of learning the deepest mysteries of the Force….

    • On Moriband, the homeworld of the Sith, the time has come for Yoda to pass his final test. Only then will he learn the best-kept secret of his order, but first a most powerful enemy awaits….

    [/blockquote]

The Yoda arc has been my most anticipated arc to see from the “Bonus Content,” and the descriptions revealed here for the first two episodes has only added to that excitement! There are only two remaining descriptions left from the “Bonus Content” episodes revealed so far (“Destiny” & “Sacrifice”) and of course they will be the final two episodes of the Yoda arc, which I can’t wait to see what they have in store for us in those episodes!

We’re still awaiting the official details about the “Bonus Content” from Lucasfilm, and whether or not these are all the episodes to be included in the “Bonus Content,” as well as if these will be the official descriptions for them. But from what we’ve heard and seen from the Yoda arc already, these look to be pretty accurate. Stay tuned, as it  hopefully wont be that much longer until we officially hear about these episodes over at StarWars.com

J.J. Abrams Talks Episode VII. Says They Have A Finished Script

It’s been awhile since we’ve heard J.J. Abrams talk about Episode VII lately, but today over at the Television Critics Association Tour, where he is promoting his new TV series “Believe,” the director shared some details about where the production is currently at for Episode VII when talking to the media:
    [blockquote cite=””]

“We’re working really hard and we’ve got our script and we’re in deep prep. Full steam ahead, y’know.”

    [/blockquote]

He also commented on the rumor about actor Jesse Plemons being up for a role in the movie:

    [blockquote cite=””]

“He is one of the actors that we’ve talked to, yeah. But, you know. It’s not often that I read about actors that I’m going to be meeting … that I get to read articles about actors who are going to come in. And so I get to see someone and say, ‘Oh, I read that I’m going to see you.’ … It’s usually agents talking to people about what’s happening. It’s a lot of noise.”

    [/blockquote]

When asked about whether he’d like to shoot the film  in IMAX, Abrams responded:

    [blockquote cite=””]

“In the right situation I would. The problem with IMAX is it’s a very loud camera. It’s a very unreliable camera. Only so much film can be in the camera. You can’t really do intimate scenes with it. It’s slow. They break down often. Having said that, they’re working on digital versions of these and so there may be a version one day. But we’re going to be shooting this next movie on film.”

    [/blockquote]

Abrams was also asked about what the craziest rumor he’s heard about Episode VII:

    [blockquote cite=””]

“There’ve been so many of them. It’s amazing to see how many there are. … But it’s sweet because it shows that there’s an interest in this movie that we all obviously know is there. But it is an incredible thing to see how many crazy things get thrown out that people often then write commentaries about. How happy they are, how disappointed they are about something that is completely false. It’s a lot of noise, frankly.”

    [/blockquote]

And finally, if he plans on directing the entire new trilogy:

    [blockquote cite=””]

“I’m just focusing on ‘Episode VII’ right now.”

    [/blockquote]

It’s great to hear from Abrams that they finally have a finished script, and that they’re deep into pre production, as well as casting. It sounds like production is moving along nicely for Episode VII, and in just a few short months, the cameras will be rolling on a brand new Star Wars movie!

You can check out the full article on J.J Abrams talking about Episode VII over at The Wrap.
