The Possibility Of More Star Wars TV Shows On ABC

During the TCA (Television Critics Association) press tour today, IGN’s Eric Goldman had the chance to ask ABC Entertainment Group President Paul Lee about the possibility of  more Star Wars TV shows airing on ABC, and his response was pretty encouraging. Here is what Paul Lee had to say:

[blockquote cite=]“I certainly have a glint in my eye. They have a lot on their plate when you look at the features that they’re planning on rolling out for the next few years, but we’ve started conversations with them.”

“It would be nice to use other strong Disney IP besides Once Upon a Time in Wonderland and besides S.H.I.E.L.D. I would love to go there. I’m a particularly fan of Lucasfilm. It’s an amazing world.”[/blockquote]

While he of course didn’t go into specifics of what those conversations with Lucasfilm were about, one can only wonder about the possibilities of what more Star Wars TV shows will be about. Maybe we haven’t heard the last of the live action series after all. Time will tell.

You can check out the full article about this story over at IGN.

New Star Wars Battlefront Likely To Come Out In 2015

As we eagerly await the release of the new Star Wars Battlefront game, we now have a better idea of when we might actually be able to get our hands on the highly anticipated game. IGN is reporting that during EA’s annual meeting of stockholders, CFO Blake Jorgensen gave a time frame as to when we can expect the game to be released. Here is the quote from Blake Jorgensen regarding Battlefront.

[blockquote cite=]”Battlefront will most likely come out around the same time that the Star Wars movies start to come out, probably in the summer of ’15.”[/blockquote]

Having a big Star Wars game come out during the time of Episode VII makes perfect sense from a marketing standpoint, and while it looks like we’ll  have to wait until 2015 to actually play the game, we should hopefully start seeing some gameplay footage and details in 2014, which I cant wait to see!

The Clone Wars To Start Airing on Toonami

The Clone Wars is set to return to Cartoon Network, as it has been announced that the series will be joining the Toonami block starting on August 17th. While the announcement of the show airing on Toonami was officially made on the Toonami Tumbler page during a fan Q&A, there were some other interesting details about the showing airing on Toonami that were made, including the possibility of them maybe airing the Bonus Content. Below is a recap of the Toonami Q&A that focuses on The Clone Wars, from the website TheOutHousers.com

[blockquote cite=]They also stated they would be skipping kid friendly or slow episodes (namely anything involving the Senate and Jar Jar Binks) focusing more on the episodes more memorable and action heavy. Toonami also said they’re trying to get their hands on the uncut episodes from the show along with airing episodes in their original 2.35:1 aspect ratio. Also they are looking into if they can air the Bonus Content of episodes that were finished, but never aired.[/blockquote]

Some interesting stuff. We’ll see if them being able to air the Bonus Content ends up happening, but having The Clone Wars air on Toonami will be a nice addition to the classic action block series.

Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy Announces John Williams’ Return to Star Wars

Event Highlights a First Look at the Upcoming Star Wars Rebels Animated Series

ESSEN, GERMANY – Star Wars Celebration Europe – the official Star Wars fan convention – has come to a successful close, with more than 20,000 attendees from 40 different countries.  Throughout the weekend, fans and families met their favorite stars from the films, gained exclusive access to the Saga’s creators, and learned first-hand exciting new developments in a galaxy far, far away.

In a Main Stage event hosted by Warwick Davis, Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy announced that legendary composer John Williams will return to score the highly-anticipated Star Wars: Episode VII, to be directed by J.J. Abrams. And one of the Executive Producers from Star Wars Rebels, Dave Filoni, was on hand to guide fans through the genesis of the upcoming animated series, revealing designs heavily influenced by original Star Wars concept artist Ralph McQuarrie.  While unable to attend in person, Executive Producers Simon Kinberg and Greg Weisman shared their excitement for the series in a video message recorded exclusively for Celebration attendees.  Star Wars: Episode VII is slated for a 2015 release and Star Wars Rebels will begin airing on Disney XD starting in fall of 2014.

“This has been a remarkable event,” said Kennedy.  “Star Wars fans are amazing the world over – a community that speaks in all languages, but with one voice.  They are an integral part of why Star Wars continues to remain so relevant after all these years, from generation to generation. The passion of our fans is a constant consideration in all of our ongoing creative conversations.  It’s for the fans that we’re telling these new stories, and because of them that we’re able to do so.”

The Emmy® Award-winning series Star Wars: The Clone Wars was also featured at the event, spotlighting a first look at The Complete Season Five Blu-ray and DVD boxed sets, and the massive Seasons 1-5 Collector’s Edition, both scheduled for an October 15 release.

At the closing ceremonies, Lucasfilm announced that its next fan fest – Star Wars Celebration VII – will be timed to the theatrical release of Episode VII, and will be held in Anaheim, California from April 16-18, 2015.

Celebration Europe II was no doubt a great event for all who were able to attend. And things will only be bigger and better for Celebration VII in 2015!

    Celebration VII Has Been Announced!

During the closing ceremonies for Celebration Europe II, it was announced  that Star Wars Celebration VII will be taking place  on April 16-19, 2015, in Anaheim CA!

Now that Disney owns Lucasfilm, the location makes a lot of sense. And do the dates of April 16-19, 2015 gives us an indication of when the release of Episode VII might be? Maybe, as all the past Celebrations leading up to a new Star Wars movie usually happened a month before the release. We’ll no doubt hear more information about Celebration VII as we move closer to the date, but the fact that it will be taking place in CA, and during the year Episode VII is planned to be released, has me super excited!

Celebration Europe II: Star Wars Rebels Panel Recap

Earlier today the Star Wars Rebels panel with Dave Filoni was held at Celebration Europe II, where we got to see some concept art and the official logo of the series. But for fans who weren’t in attendance at the panel, the official Star Wars Blog has provided a full recap of the Star Wars Rebels panel, where Dave shares a few more details about the show. You can check out the full recap below.

[blockquote cite=””] Warwick Davis takes the stage! He is now talking to a fan. What brings her to Celebration? “My boyfriend.” The crowd laughs, but she adds that she like Star Wars now.

Davis asks, “Do you know which character I played?” She answers, “The little one?” “A lucky guess,” Davis replies.

R4-CEII, Davis’ translator astromech, has taken the stage. Davis points out that it does actually say CEII on his dome.

Now showing the video previously released of Pablo Hidalgo’s chat with Dave Filoni about Star Wars Rebels.

Filoni takes the stage! Standing ovation from the crowd. Says this is his fourth Celebration. “You fans are always so gracious. I really appreciate it.” He’s wearing a shirt made for him by a fan.

Filoni says that he had a part for Davis set up in The Clone Wars, but then the series ended. They’re trying to figure out the best way to bring out the remaining episodes. “What I really like about it is, I feel that Clone Wars got its place and time in the Star Wars saga.”

“You’ll see in Lucasfilm now a collaboration across many fronts…that’s something I never really had on Clone Wars.” – Dave Filoni. Now showing a video from Greg Weisman and Simon Kinberg addressing the fans. “I’m just swamped on Rebels and very glad.” — Greg Weisman. “I am super, super excited to be working on the Rebels show and to be working on the movies, as well.” – Simon Kinberg

Kinberg discusses how his children love Star Wars, and he sees that he “can’t mess this up” for them and for the fans.

Where did the idea for Rebels come from? Filoni says Lucasfilm’s story team got together and talked about what they wanted to see, and they all agreed it was this era. He adds that it will visually be different from The Clone Wars, particularly it will have a strong influence from Ralph McQuarrie. “I looked at his paintings, and there are tons of paintings that he did that have never made it to the screen.” Concept art shows on screen, they look very Star Wars. “Ralph had such a mind for the future.”

Filoni says they opened the archives and looked at all of Filoni’s originals, to see texture and details. They were often slightly different from what made it to film, which was perfect. “We wanted to create a look for this part of Star Wars that precedes A New Hope by just a little bit.” He adds “We have created a set of digital brushes that replicate McQuarrie’s style…We’re going for something that’s much more an illustrative look.”

Now talking about the influence of Miyazaki’s character design. They’re creative but believable dramatically. The same goes for Star Wars.

No animation has really been created yet, but Filoni shows off some Star Wars Rebels concept art, including an Imperial interior! He talks about very specific color schemes. The Empire is always glossy and silver. Luke wears browns and sandy colors. Han is multi-colored. Leia wore white because she was in the Imperial Senate.

More concept art for an astromech, which will feature arms that McQuarrie originally intended for Artoo, and a protocol droid. Now showing a Star Destroyer. Great applause. Filoni points out that the design will feature elements of the Star Destroyers from A New Hope.

Now showing a Stormtrooper! Audience applauds. “They get excited about anything bad, don’t they?” – Davis

Filoni says, “You can see a lot of the texture and line work is meant to represent McQuarrie and the way he paints.” He adds that seeing characters he drew in The Clone Wars come to life via fan costumes is one of his favorite things.

Now showing the Ghost, a new ship from the show, which will be central. Filoni says he wanted it to feel like a home, the way the Falcon did. They’re also working hard studying the original films, hoping it will match the look of classic Star Wars.

“There has been such great support at Lucasfilm for this endeavor…if you told me as a kid growing up in Pittsburg that I’d be mentored by George Lucas and then Kathleen Kennedy, my had would have exploded.” – Dave Filoni

Just unveiled the official Star Wars Rebels logo, and Filoni is now throwing some T-shirts with the logo into the crowd.

     Now onto trivia!

Filoni gets one wrong! What was the opening sentence to the Revenge of the Sith crawl? “War!”

“You have no idea how much pressure this is!” Filoni says. He scores a 9/10.

Twitter question: The Clone Wars’ goal was 100 episodes. What is Rebels’ goal? “I’m really excited. Rebels is a really important project to me…It’s something that I want everybody at Lucasfilm to be proud of…Let’s shoot for 100. Why not?”

Will Rebels be told out of sequence like The Clone Wars? Filoni explains that that came from George Lucas.

Will Rebels see a young, skinnier Porkins? “Just to show you that the people working on this show are not so different from you, it’s actually come up,” Filoni says.

Will Rebels continue storylines from The Clone Wars? Filoni is non-commital, but says, “I love all Star Wars characters, especially the ones I created.” [/blockquote]

The more information about Star Wars Rebels that gets revealed, the more awesome the show sounds! Star Wars Rebels sounds like it will no doubt be a worthy successor to the Clone Wars.

New Star Wars Rebels Details & Art Revealed At Celebration Europe II!

Celebration Europe II has given us our first look at some concept art for Star Wars Rebels, as well as some new info given by Dave Filoni at the Rebels panel. Below are the new details about the show from StarWars.com, including the two pieces of concept art that shows a space battle featuring a new ship called the ghost (which will be the new ship of the show’s main characters) and a TIE Fighter that’s shown crashing on a planet.

[blockquote cite=””] Star Wars Rebels Executive Producer Dave Filoni pulled back the curtain on Lucasfilm’s highly anticipated animated series for Star Wars Celebration Europe attendees today, discussing the huge influence of original Star Wars concept artist Ralph McQuarrie on the look and feel of the show, and revealing the series’ unique logo and select designs.

Filoni talked at length about the use of McQuarrie art as a springboard for the series, showcasing many works from the original trilogy, including landscapes and characters, and detailing how they inform the visual identity of Star Wars Rebels.

For Star Wars Rebels, fans were given their first look at the Ghost, which will be the main character’s ship and play a big part in the series, as well as a computer rendering of a very McQuarrie-esque Stormtrooper, the interior of a Star Destroyer, and more. The show’s logo, a minimalist yet powerful design, is notable for its orange and black color scheme, which recalls the flight suit colors of Rebel pilots in the original Star Wars trilogy.

While unable to attend in person, Executive Producers Simon Kinberg and Greg Weisman shared their excitement for the series in a video message recorded specifically for Celebration attendees.

The series is set between the events of Episode III and IV — an era spanning almost two decades never-before explored on-screen. It takes place in a time where the Empire is securing its grip on the galaxy and hunting down the last of the Jedi Knights as a fledgling rebellion against the Empire is taking shape.

Star Wars Rebels will be produced by Lucasfilm Animation, featuring many of the key talents that made Star Wars: The Clone Wars. It is scheduled to premiere in fall 2014 as a one-hour special telecast on Disney Channel, and will be followed by a series on Disney XD channels around the world.[/blockquote]

Celebration Europe II: The Kathleen Kennedy Panel Recap

Kathleen Kennedy made her first appearance at a Star Wars Celebration earlier today, and while the big announcement during her panel was John Williams coming back to score Episode VII, she did share what the process is currently like developing Episode VII, working with J.J. Abrams, the great responsibly she has carrying on the legacy of Star Wars and George Lucas, and more. The official Star Wars Blog has a full recap of the Panel, which you can check out below.

Warwick Davis takes the stage to a standing ovation. Lots of lightsabers throughout the crowd today!

Davis talks to a fan in a Chewbacca outfit. “I can sympathize with you, because I’ve worn furry outfits in the past.”

Now playing a video retrospective of Kathleen Kennedy’s career. Features clips from Jurassic Park, Indiana Jones, and many more. George Lucas, Steven Spielberg, and others speak in video. “Kathy was amazing at organization.” – Dennis Muren. “She has tremendous knowledge and a great capacity for problem solving.” – Tom Cruise. “She’s fun and she’s always light-hearted.” – George Lucas. “She has been devoted to getting the best out of the filmmaker.” – Steven Spielberg. “Kathy is a perfect choice for Star Wars: Episode VII. – Dennis Muren.” Video ends with a photo of Kennedy sitting at a table with Lucas and J.J. Abrams.

Kennedy takes the stage. HUGE reception. Audience standing and cheering.

“[Shepherding Star Wars] is a daunting proposition and I can’t do this without every single one of you out there…It means a great deal to us and I see it means a great deal to you, and that’s something that we want to protect.” – Kathleen Kennedy

Davis asks about her start in the business. Kennedy says she’s not from LA and her family was not in the business. Going to see Close Encounters of the Third Kind was the real inspiration for getting into film. Her big break came in working on 1941, after which Spielberg asked her to work for him. The first script he gave her was Raiders of the Lost Ark.

“I had fantastic mentorship, there’s no question…the great thing about George is he’s just constantly full of ideas. It’s no surprise, the level of innovation going on in his company.” – Kathleen Kennedy

“I love it when I read a script and think it’s fantastic, then think to myself, ‘How are we going to do that?’” – Kathleen Kennedy on working on technologically innovative films.

“Much like many of you, looking at all the Star Wars movies and getting a feeling in what the early films did in combination with real locations and special effects — that’s something we’re looking very seriously at. We’re going to find some really cool locations for Ep VII. We’re going to use ever tool in the toolbox for this movie.”

“It’s using artwork that you can touch and feel in combination with CG effects.” – Kathleen Kennedy

Kennedy now talking about how Lucas asked her at lunch about taking over Lucasfilm. “I answered pretty quickly…it’s something that I realized would afford me an opportunity to take all my skills…and be a part of something so much bigger.”

Davis asks about selecting J.J. Abrams. “I’ve actually known J.J. Abrams since he was about 15,” Kennedy says. She was working for Spielberg, and someone called her office, saying he found some Super 8 films of Spielberg’s — the films he made as a kid. These were the films. Simultaneously, Kennedy read an article about high school students who won a video award, and she thought to hire them to restore the Super 8 tapes. The students were Abrams and Matt Reeves.

In selecting a director, she and Lucas had a shortlist of directors, and Abrams was at the top. “He has a sense of aspiration in what he does. His films tend to be hopeful. They’re fun and exciting…I think he’s going to do an amazing job.”

On respecting the old and creating something new. “There’s been an amazing education process that has gone on with this.” Kennedy says they had many meetings with Lucas where he talked about where his ideas come from and how deep they go. “This is a huge responsibility and we’re all taking that really seriously.”

“I think the key was that George kept saying over and over again that not only are they aspirational, but they’re fun. He wanted to make sure that we maintained a sense of humor. – Kathleen Kennedy

“We know that if we don’t have great stories and great characters, then effects mean nothing.” – Kathleen Kennedy

Audience questions via Twitter: What have you learned about Star Wars fans? “They control everything. We’re in service to you.” Big applause.

Greatest pleasure in your job? “It’s such a rich universe, it’s just so much fun.” Kennedy talks about everything going on, from film to TV to online, and how exciting it is for her.

Davis now showing the sketch of a character he created for Episode VII during the Doug Chiang and Iain McCaig panel. “He’s quite short isn’t he…” Davis says. Laughter and applause…

Typical day? Kennedy spends part of her time at Lucasfilm, then the rest of the week with Abrams and the writing team at Bad Robot. They do a lot of Skyping and sit in long, lengthy story meetings. “Great stuff is coming out of those discussions.” At the Presidio office of Lucasfilm, she is in Lucas’ old office. Lucas is still at Skywalker Ranch.

What’s your favorite project? “It’s so hard to pick. In front of this crowd I’m going to say Ep VII!” Kennedy says. But she adds that Raiders of the Lost Ark holds a special place for her.

Which character in Star Wars do you like the most? Kennedy tells a story about how when one of her daughters was 3, she was obsessed with Darth Vader. Lucas sent Darth Vader to her birthday party, which she loved, but all the other kids were terrified.

Davis tells a story about how he attended Lucas’ daughter’s birthday party in costume, where children forced him to eat cake… until his mask was filled and he had to leave.

Is there something you can tell us about Episode VII, Davis asks… “I had breakfast with someone very important to the Star Wars family last Friday, and he has committed to working on [Episode VII]. And that is Mr. John Williams.” HUGE ovation!

Video interview with John Williams now playing. He says Kennedy and Abrams are “perfect” choices to carry on Star Wars. “You couldn’t find better candidates.”

Kennedy thanks the audience. That’s it! Thanks for reading!

    KK_warwick_stage-400x266

Just reading what Kathleen Kennedy had to say about Star Wars and it’s fans during this panel just reassures that Star Wars is in great hands. Episode VII is going to be awesome!
