The Future of The Clone Wars & Lucasfilm Animation Revealed

After many weeks of rumors surrounding the future of “The Clone Wars,” StarWars.com has finally revealed in a post, as well as in the above video announcement from Dave Filoni, that the series will be winding down, and that they are no longer producing new episodes for Cartoon Network. But also in this announcement, we learn that we have not seen the last episode of “The Clone Wars” just yet. They are producing new episodes of the series to wrap up some story threads that are still open, and we just have to stay tuned for more information on where we will be able to see these episodes. Also in the announcement, it is revealed that “Star Wars Detours” has been postponed, but also that a brand new animated series set in a time period of Star Wars we have yet to see on television is being produced.  Here is the full announcement that was made over at StarWars.com

[blockquote cite=]As we enter into an exciting new era focused on the next Star Wars trilogy, Lucasfilm has decided to pursue a new direction in animated programming. We are exploring a whole new Star Wars series set in a time period previously untouched in Star Wars films or television programming. You can expect more details in the months to come.

As part of this shift, we have also made some key decisions affecting Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Star Wars Detours.

After five highly successful and critically acclaimed seasons of Star Wars: The Clone Wars, we feel the time has come to wind down the series. While the studio is no longer producing new episodes for Cartoon Network, we’re continuing production on new Clone Wars story arcs that promise to be some of the most thrilling adventures ever seen. Stay tuned for more information on where fans can soon find this bonus content. In the video below, Supervising Director Dave Filoni offers a peek of what is to come in Star Wars: The Clone Wars.

At Star Wars Celebration VI last year, George Lucas gave fans a glimpse at the animated comedy series Star Wars Detours from Seth Green, Matthew Senreich, and Todd Grimes. Detours was conceived and produced before we decided to move forward with the new Star Wars trilogy, and in the wake of that decision, Lucasfilm has reconsidered whether launching an animated comedy prior to the launch of Episode VII makes sense. As a result, we’ve decided to postpone the release of Detours until a later date.

We are incredibly proud of the teams at Lucasfilm Animation for creating some of the most amazing animation ever produced for TV. Keep checking StarWars.com for new developments on these and future projects.[/blockquote]

While it is sad to hear that “The Clone Wars” will be wrapping up, and that “Star Wars Detours” has been postponed, it is definitely exciting to know we will be seeing a brand new Star Wars animated series, and I am definitely glad to find out that we will be seeing more episodes of “The Clone Wars” to fully wrap up the series. And after seeing the new clip that was shown in Dave Filoni’s announcement video, I absolutely can’t wait to see these new episodes!

The Process Of How Disney Bought Lucasfilm

Today the Bloomberg Businessweek website posted a great article that gives us an inside look at how the purchase of Lucasfilm by Disney went down behind the scenes. We get some insight as to what Disney Chairman Bob Iger wanted to do with the franchise before he bought it, as well as the process of George Lucas showing Disney his treatments of the new trilogy for the first time. But also in the article, there are some interesting quotes made by George Lucas, including this one about Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, and Harrison Ford Returning for Episode VII:

[blockquote cite=]“We had already signed Mark and Carrie and Harrison—or we were pretty much in final stages of negotiation. So I called them to say, ‘Look, this is what’s going on.’?” He pauses. “Maybe I’m not supposed to say that. I think they want to announce that with some big whoop-de-do, but we were negotiating with them.” Then he adds: “I won’t say whether the negotiations were successful or not.”[/blockquote]

This story is a real fascinating read, so you definitely want to check out the full article of how Disney acquired Lucasfilm in the link below.

Dave Filoni Talks Season 5 In A New Interview

IGN’s Eric Goldman conducted a great new interview with Dave Filoni that was posted today, where talks about every arc in season 5, why the Clovis arc got removed from this season, and briefly talks about the future of the series. While he really didn’t share any new information, here’s what he told Eric Goldman about the future of the show:

[blockquote cite=]IGN: There are so many questions, obviously, about the future of the show, but back last summer at Celebration, you talked about work being done on Season 6. We know that there are completed episodes that we haven’t seen. Might we get an announcement one way or the other about when and where we’ll be seeing that, any time soon?

Filoni: [Laughs] Well, that’s the interesting part, this wait-and-see thing, I know, for fans. But there are more stories to tell, and as I’ve said, we’ve been working on them for awhile. I’ll be excited when we can share more details with you about that, but at this point, there isn’t really much I can say. Unfortunately, that’s all I can say. Sadly, for you guys. [Laughs] I see cool stuff every day… it’s totally unfair!

IGN: That’s very encouraging, because there are some more extreme rumors saying, “The show is over!” But I kept thinking, “But they’ve been making episodes, so that can’t be the case!”

Filoni: Right? Always in motion is the future. This is where I can be very vague and quizzical. [Laughs][/blockquote]

The Emperor Is Coming – Ian McDiarmid To Appear At Star Wars Celebration Europe!

“The Emperor is coming here?” Those are no doubt going to be the words spoken today by fans attending Celebration Europe, as it has just been announced that Ian McDiarmid will be appearing at the event! You can check out the official announcement and details below, as well as the new trailer for Celebration Europe II, and some photos of Celebration VI that were sent to us from Lucasfilm.

Ian McDiarmid to Appear at Star Wars Celebration Europe!

The Emperor is coming to the biggest Star Wars party in Europe, July 26-28, 2013 in Essen, Germany.

Ian McDiarmid, the actor who unforgettably played the evil galactic mastermind and the ultimate villain of the Star Wars Saga, will make a rare convention appearance at Star Wars Celebration Europe, appearing on-stage and signing autographs.

This summer’s event will mark the first Celebration in Europe at which the highly sought-after actor will appear to sign autographs and chat on the Celebration Stage, offering attendees a rare opportunity to hear about the making of Star Wars from his perspective.

In 1983, McDiarmid embodied the full depth of the dark side as the Emperor in Star Wars: Episode VI Return of the Jedi, his face hidden under intensive makeup and his eyes concealed behind yellow contact lenses. When his true face was revealed as the apparently kind and helpful Senator Palpatine in Star Wars: Episode I The Phantom Menace (1999), he projected a different kind of evil – a subtle manipulator of galactic events, a villain hidden in plain sight. As the prequels progressed, so too did Palpatine’s plans until finally, in Revenge of the Sith (2005), McDiarmid got to play evil at its fullest, and revealed the true power of Darth Sidious.

Star Wars Celebrations bring fans of all ages together, from all points of the globe, to celebrate the pop-culture phenomenon that is Star Wars. From its young fans of Star Wars: The Clone Wars to die-hards fueled by the nostalgia for the original Star Wars trilogy; curious, casual followers; gamers, readers, costumers or collectors — there’s something for everyone at Celebration.

Tim Curry Is The New Voice Of Palpatine

After the sad passing of Ian Abercrombie last year, fans have been wondering who will take over the role of Chancellor Palpatine in “The Clone Wars.” Well today over at the The Huffington Post, they were able to make the first exclusive announcement that actor Tim Curry will now be voicing Palpatine on “The Clone Wars,” beginning with this week’s episode “The Wrong Jedi.” Here is Dave Filoni on Tim Curry voicing Palpatine.

[blockquote cite=]”We had an extensive search to find a new voice for Palpatine. It wasn’t just a matter of finding an actor who could to recreate lines from the films. We needed someone to deliver a performance that could stand alongside what Ian McDiarmid and Ian Abercrombie created as this legendary Star Wars character. At the end of the day, there is little question that bringing in an actor of Tim’s caliber was perfect for Chancellor Palpatine.”[/blockquote]
